偽うなぎ (“nise unagi”) means “fake eel”.
It can also be written in “kanji” as 偽鰻 (Japanese characters ultimately derived from Chinese logograms) and it is pronounced as two syllables “ni-se” (similar to, but with purer vowel sounds than the English words “knee-say”).
